Writers for this site don’t get to spend a lot of time in Independence — we’re not exactly huge fans of meth or strip mall shantytowns — so we don’t make it to Smokehouse Bar-B-Que too often. (And why the “que” instead of “cue,” as long as we’re spelling it out?) Unfortunately for fans of the place, the place had a little run-in with O. Henry’s favorite literary tool a couple nights ago.
It took firefighters nearly an hour to get the blaze under control after smoke filled the Smokehouse Bar-B-Que, at 19000 E. 39th St., at about 9:15 p.m. Firefighters said the inside of the structure was heavily damaged, although there was little visible damage to the outside of the building. No one was hurt in the fire.
Yikes. This is like a hot tub store called “Soakmasters” having a basement flood.
The story even says that dining customers were forced into the streets. Unfortunately, they were then robbed.
